American Airlines LAX

This top to bottom remodel and expansion of the Terminal doubled the square footage to 575,000 square feet, added international gates and renovated the existing facilities for American Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport. This  project called for the design of new electrical, information technology and security systems, which were implemented in over 10 phases over the course of four years, without interrupting the facility‚Äôs operations. The project was completed on time and under budget.

Gurcinas & Associates, Inc. (GA) was brought in early during the initial planning stages to address issues of the viability of the facility remaining in operation during the extensive remodel and addition. GA designed the replacement of the electrical distribution systems serving the entire facility, along with modernized voice/data, security and lighting control systems.

GA designed an intricate and extremely detailed power phasing plan which succeeded in keeping the daily Airport operations uninterrupted and saved the prohibitive expense of massive field generators. The various infrastructure requirements for TSA, Airport, FIS Agencies, American Airlines and concessionaires were incorporated to take advantage of new technologies and optimize energy efficiency.

GA supported the construction phases through the active presence and accessibility of our project managers and staff. Our quick and accurate resolution of field conditions, emergency inspections and ongoing consultations were vital to keeping this complex project on schedule and within budget.
